This morning my 1999 Mercury 75hp engine cranked and ran fine to my first spot. When I went to crank it to move all I got was a dull click noise. Made it back to the house on the trolling motor and checked the battery connections. Tight and no corrosion. Shows 12 volts. Where should I start troubleshooting?

Thats what I was thinking also. Replaced the starter a few months ago.

Amps will start your motor, not the volts. Get a load test on your battery. My 2cents

Well, I pulled the flywheel cover off and found that the starter was jammed with the flywheel. Knocked them apart and it fired right up.

A stuck starter bendix gear is normally a sign of a starting battery failing, I would load test the starting battery, this could happen again.

Gary,

It jammed tip of the tooth of starter to tip of flywheel tooth. Is this something that I should worry about?
