Have a look at this article from Edwin Evers a month or so ago, and then the one by Ish recently. They both cover going after post-spawners. We're a confused bunch...

Edwin's:

Ish's:

haha, that's funny.

I think the only universal truth in bass location at anytime of year, is that they are shallow in the spawn. Other than that, catch them on a ledge in 20ft or catch them in a flooded bush in 2ft.

I agree, and even that's relative to things like water clarity.. For example, they'll spawn at Amistad in 20ft of water...

Both Edwin and Ish are great fisherman that are fishing to their strengths. Both fisherman are exactly right on lakes that will support their techniques of deep water slopes and shallow water cover.

The individual lake determines what the fish are going to do after they spawn. The heaver the cover on shore in 5 to 10 ft. of water the longer these big females will stay on shore. It takes more than just a bush or two to keep those big fish up shallow.

It is apparent to me that Evers is talking about much cleaner lakes that does not have heavy grass and shoreline cover to hold the fish up shallow. A lake that fits his deeper water approach is Lake Falcon after the spawn.

It is apparent to me that Monroe is talking about lakes that have lots of shoreline cover providing everything big fish would need to keep her shallow and around the spawning beds at a depth that has the water temps. that she will tolerate during the early summer months. A lake that matches this is Lake Amistad with grass out to 20 ft..

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

Seems like the shallows are "ghost towns" or full of dinks after the spawn. I think more fish go deep than stay shallow, but Ish is a pro so he probably knows better.

You can't give post spawn a general blanket set of rules. It literally is lake dependent and water levels. I know lakes where post spawn you can catch 25 lbs deep and 25lbs shallow at the same time.

The problem I have with advice from pros or professional (sponsored) fisherman, youtubers, any of those.. is that I feel.. my opinion, is that they are trying to sell... sell clicks, sell items, whatever.. and so the advice I feel I am getting is more about why I should buy or click, then 'selling' me a technique that is valid.

That said, technique, as it applies to fishing, is such a rabbit hole of a discussion... million ways to catch a fish with so many variables to consider. A good fisherman has to be smart.. I will get there some day! hammer
