Was about ready to head home, but decided on “one more cast”... put on a strike indicator and went with a COAF Guadalupana for the fishing fly. Took a little to figure out the hookset but ended up losing count of how many were caught and released. Even came back later that evening and lost count again of what was caught and released. Will get a video posted of the evening round later in the week. For now, here is the video from this morning! Out and About Sunday Morning Pond Fishing.

Struck out the other day fishing the pond behind In-N-Out Burger. Decided to give it another try Monday. Things started slow but did pick up with Bluegill. No Bass but the Near Deere fished 2.5 feet under a strike indicator were the key! Did have make a few mistakes as well left them biting because we had to get back home to feed the dog. Fun stuff!

More fun pond fishing! This time tried a pond using a 4wt and traditional fly line, then later with a one-handed spey fly line.  Really liking the one-handed spey fly line! Cottonwood Creek Trail Pond Fishing.

Sidetracked fishing today but did get the video of last week's kayak fishing. Struck out but still a fun time, tried different techniques to get fish to bite... no luck. Did have fun testing out the new Pelican Catch 100 kayak; really like being able to stand up in it. Hope to use it fly fishing! May be of interest to some thinking about a kayak for fly fishing...skip to the last 40sec.

Was a tough round fishing last week. Decided to take the jon boat and put out jug lines instead of the kayak and flyrods. Only caught one Channel Catfish that we let go. We know the Catfish are there; just got to keep at it… plus always good to recall past trips like the one where we caught a 33″ catfish jug lining (added a snippet of that trip to the video below as a reminder!) Tough Round Fishing Lavon...

Did make a trip to the Lower Illinois River in Oklahoma for some trout fishing. Caught several trout and other fish using an Olive Near Deere while fishing partner used a bubble float rig to catch them with Trout Worms. Only fished for a couple of hours before they started generating. Still a fun time and despite the high temps, the water was chilly while wet wading the river.

Will post a video of the trip later!

Made it to the Lower Illinois River earlier this month – June 2, 2018. Had a fun time wet wading the river for a chance at trout and other fish! Went with the 5 weight fly rod and one-handed spey casting with the OPST Commando Head. Used an olive Near Deere for the fishing fly. Fishing partner opted for ultralight spinning gear and Power Bait Trout Worms. Tip broke on the rod but he did manage to catch trout using a bubble fly rig!

Your’s truly only caught one trout but did miss several more. Did catch a White Bass and a Striped Bass (little one), too. Hot day but the water was cold. And, even though the water was murky, the fish were biting. Ended up calling the trip short because they started generating power. No worries… made it to OKC early and checked out Bricktown… cool place!

Great time kayak fishing yesterday, even though we caught only one Catfish. Still working the video of the fishing and side trips to the Texas Coast and Hill Country. More to come. Yesterday's Pictures.

Finally finished the video of our road trip to the Texas Coast with lots of sidetrips while enroute. Had a week off from the day job and no particular plans... so, filled-up on gas and hit the road to checkout locations along the way! Video is longer than what we normally post, but hoped to have captured some of the things we did and learned thi road trip! Road Trip to the Texas Coast and Sidetrips, too!

One to keep handy for early morning and late evening for Bluegill especially in this heat! Here is the fishing fly that we based the Foam Grasshopper on... the Betts Bream Getter. But, this one comes from a kit we picked up from Feather Craft called the Foam Spider Fly Tying Kit made by Wapsi. Looks just like the Bream Getter! Foam Spider aka Bream Getter.

Having fun pond hopping local ponds and getting lots of practice casting the OPST Commando Head that we like using on our 5wt Fly Rod. Able to demo different casts that we use while in the Field. Not sure if they are the traditional fly casts techniques… mainly go with variations of casts until we find one that works for us. Pond Hopping with the OPST Commando Head...
