most failures are the result of leaking seals --jack it up -roll em --check for slack --quit pumping grease in them all the time --if they are not leaking they dont need additional grease (it doesnt evaporate)
most problems will show signs first --"if it aint broke --dont fix it !"

I would guess it was 1981 or 82. I lived in Corpus. Fished Lake Corpus on a Sunday morning. was backing my boat into my back yard and my tire fell off the axle as I got it in place and put on the brakes. Wouldn't have happened again in a hundred years. In most cases it would have fallen off on the freeway.
Thanks, Billy

I've got vault bearings, they claim to not need touched for 10 years. Anyone have experience contrary with them? I have vaults on my 2012 trailer. Had one rear seal go out in early 2016 and another about 6 months later. At that time i just went ahead and reworked the other two that had not yet failed. They are good but they will absolutely fail at some point. Nothing is maintenance free in my opinion. Ya vault is full of cr@p stranded me on I-20 2 years ago only 4 year old trailer

I've had my boat for 10 years (original owner) and for the last several years, had been worried about my bearings because I never did anything to them. They have bearing buddies on them. I would periodically try to "rock" the sides on the middle of the bearing buddy side to side, because I saw something on their website that's how you determine that it has enough grease.
So last year, I finally set aside the time to pull them out and re-pack them, because I felt like "it was time." I got them taken out, cleaned them, and they looked brand freakin' new. I was now worried that I would screw something up re-packing and putting them back together!
I got new inner seals for them (had to tear up the old ones getting them out, I heard this was common), and put them back in, and now think that you can do more harm than good always messing with them, especially periodically pumping in grease... if you have to add it, where's the old grease going?

Just picked up my boat. New (heavier duty) axle, hubs, leaf springs, u bolts, tire and rim, and added bearing buddies. The guy said every boat should use them (and they werent expensive). Leggott Trailers in Waco had me totally taken care of in 36 hours, with great service, and a fair price. Anyone in the greater Waco area that needs trailer work, I highly recommend Leggott.
