It will be 28' wide, so two lanes, and will have a turn around to make it less distance to back down. Supposed to have a dock along the north side. According to the city's facebook account, they are waiting on TPWD to finalize the report on recommendations to reduce the siltation at the end of the ramp. So it will likely be months before they do any construction work. https://www.cityofalvarado.org/vertical/sites/%7BFE379FF5-FC13-499F-91C4-F29A5F8D4275%7D/uploads/20170928111800735.pdf
Buddy of mine is slaying the bass from his kayak out there. Im sure it will be nice when its done. I bet the waterfront homeowners hope it stays closed.

Good thing they closed the old ramp so many months before even having a beginning plan or date!
Yep and sounds like job that any normal construction company could get done in weeks. I have heard from people who have fished it all the time that its a budget issue. They decided to re-do something for the better but didn't estimate or figure in costs for the annual budget. What ever the reason, its stupid that its taking that long.
I called the city of Alvarado and they said they were waiting for a signature from TXPWD and that the ramp could be completed by October but they also have up to 180 days to complete
What was wrong with the old ramp? I launched my kayak there many times. It was narrow, but only on Saturday and Sunday was there any kind of waiting line. Plenty of parking. No different than other lakes. Sounds like uninformed politicians listening to the powerful and influential constituents. It never stops. IslandJim

The old ramp had large potholes and was collapsing at the end of ramp. It wasn't really noticable until the water dropped about 2 feet low and then trailers would start falling off the end of the ramp due to the prop washout hole.
Apparently if you are determined enough, you can launch a boat off of what is left of the ramp. Had a friend take pictures of a guy who launched a bass boat this weekend. His back tires on the truck were inches from falling off the ramp. The boat trailer just fell in the hole of where the ramp used to be. Don't know how he got the trailer back out. It was at least a 3 foot drop off last time I was there.
Buddy of mine caught a 6 pounder yesterday in a kayak. Without the boat pressure it seems to be doing good. I bet the locals love that ramp not being open.

Sometimes, just giving a resource a break will actually improve it. This is a minor inconvenience that will have a positive effect on that little lake/pond. There's still Cleburne Lake close by. Patience is rare nowadays. " Some things take time to make em better than before" & it ain't hurting the fishery at all.
My advice would be to stay away. A buddy of mine that was kayaking out there along with 3 other people he didnt know were met by Alvarado PD at the ramp Monday evening. He was given a Criminal trespass warning and the others got ticketed for other things. I dont see a problem with kayakers going out there and enjoying the "City Lake" while the ramp is closed. Obviously home owners called in. I know there is a sign that says park closed, But it's only because of the ramp. Seems to me your fine to put a kayak in. No safety issues or liability with that.

I wonder if all the nasty local sunbathers and swimmers are allowed? I always called them beached Whales. HAAA!

It's possible that with the ramp closed, if there was an emergency, the sheriff/TPWD couldn't launch a boat to provide recovery/search actions.
Do the posted signs say "Ramp Closed" or do they say "Park Closed? There IS a difference. Trespassing if Park Closed. Ramp is in the Park. On a side note: is it REALLY so important that access to that little pond is so urgent?? I mean , Cmon. REALLY???

Just pitch and Grind you never know when you are going to get LUCKY !!!!!!!!
I would not try to put in anywhere around the old ramp yak or motor boat the PD and sheriff and highway patrol are issuing tickets upwards of 500.00 to 1000.00 dollars have a friend i fished with told me this he is a highway patrol officer and thats in his beat he has personally issued 2 tickets already just a heads up oh and they will wait at the ramp for you to get back
Progress is well underway. The new ramp has been poured and some of the flatwork done. Parking lot, restrooms, lighting and some other things remain. I would hope we will be ready to open by early spring!!

Does anyone know anything about the place that rents kayaks on Alvarado Lake?

Doesn't look 28' wide.

Ive pulled up to it by boat. Its definitely wide enough for two boats. It will have to be two people that know how to back down a ramp. There is no chunk rock or anything on either side of the ramp. So watch the sides. Ive been told theres about a 4ft drop off out in the water off the side of the ramp. Prob see some good action in the summer.
