Yesterday I saw a guy in a really nice newer Ranger catch a hugh bass, he weighed her and said over 10, which I believe, then he trolled over to a ruff looking barge, asked the guys in the barge if they eat bass, they said yes so he handed her to them and they put her in a ice chest, I asked them to release it but in no uncertain words they told me to mind my own business, I'm not upset with the guys in the barge, they looked like they would eat road kill, but the guy in the Ranger was disgusting! He dont deserve to call himself a bass fisherman! does he not know that was a female which populates the lake !!

Legal fish, whats the problem? I guess you dont point out the expired bass that are dumped back after weight in that the bass fisherman are too proud to keep to the bobber bank fishers at the marinas/launches either I bet. Well I do, they want fish to eat, let them eat them. I feel there are MANY and I mean MANY that never see a lure that contribute to the bass populations of every lake in the US. My .02

I feel like this is a troll-post...

That fish likely populated the lake for upwards of 10 years, calm down.

I work hard to keep the fish I catch alive until and after weigh-in, using ice and Please Release Me along with running my aerators continuously. I have had people standing near where I put them back in the lake imply that they might want the fish, but they are my fish...at least for that day...and they are going back in alive.

I think it is sort of crazy to give someone a 10 pound bass to eat, but it takes all kinds. Two pounders would eat just as well or better if you want to give some fish away.

What if the guy looked like he would eat road kill, considered himself a bass fisherman, but was in an old jon boat with nothing but a paddle?

I think the issue is that a 10 is a true giant bass. Statistically, the chances of ever catching one for most anglers is extremely low, even in Texas. When you do catch one, that's a resource that modern bass fisherman are generally dedicated to preserve. You could eat 5 2 pounders and get the same amount of meat as one 10. Most people will fish a lifetime and never catch a 10.

It's his fish to do what he wants with. Just because you don't approve of it doesn't make it illegal. I would take the barge guys advise.

some not all of the same folks that whine about a legal caught fish given to someone else to eat are some of the same folks that fish bass tournaments in the hot summer until 3 o clock after noon an leave bass at the weigh in site floating. as for the advice that was given it was good.

i dont read it as a troll post and wouldn't unless the OP has a history of doing so.

it would be a little jarring to see someone throw a DD in an ice chest, for most conservation-minded bass anglers. fortunately most TX bass anglers these days are just that - conservation-minded, so when one gets caught and filleted it isn't going to have a big impact. Its not like Falcon in 08 when you would see a pile of giants on the table getting chopped up every day.

I would have let her go and hopefully get bigger / make more babies, but hopefully this one fed a hungry family for a few days.
