Hey guys,

Today I put some Jug lines out in the Stewart Creek area on Lake Lewisville while I did some Rod and Reel fishing in the main lake. I returned 2 hours later to find most of my jugs rolled up and freely floating around the cove. So I have a couple of questions...

Was I not supposed to be Jugging in that area?
Am I supposed to attend them within a certain radius?
Is this a common thing?

I am new to this type of fishing and willing to hear if I was doing anything wrong...Please educate me if need be.

Thank you!

You were legal. I jug fished Lewisville for 10 years. Because I enjoyed watching them "flag", I always kept mine in sight. Most know not to mess with someone else's jugs unless they create a hazard.

Sounds like your jugs were found by a jerkazz but at least they werent stolen!

I dont see the great idea of leaving jugs out where you cant see them or for days at a time. Maybe just maybe sunset to first thing in the morning but not longer than that.

I know its legal but Im not taking the chance of someone else taking my fish and/or jugs.

As long as they were tagged with name address and date it sounds like you were legal. My guess is that someone was taking fish off if some were rolled up and others were not. Hate to hear that someone was messing with your jugs.

Was fishing Grapevine , had dozen jugs out while we fished R&R. This nice guy in a bassboat pulls up decides to run my jugs.We Motored over and I stepped right off my boat and took the keys out of his ignition and ask what the heck he thought he was doing. He said get off my boat or I'll Call the cops, I said game warden's been called and your not going anywhere. To make long story short, Game Warden showed up and took him in tow. I know he recieved a ticket.

Doesnt surprise me...Im getting a little long in the tooth to brawl but I liked the old fashioned boat ramp beat down in my wilder days. boxing Lake Lewisville has tons of ash hoes.

There is a fine line between fishing and floating around like an idiot!!

I recall my Dad speaking of someone running their trotlines. They realized this one guy who caught some, had their fish, leaders & hooks (taken from the trotline. I forget if they accused him or not. But the guy ran someone else's. And they waited behind a ledge on the river. As the guy was well into running someone else's lines & putting the fish in his boat, the guy who was waiting to catch him, popped his head up & told him he was taking fish off his lines. The guy claimed they were his. The owner of the trotline gave him an ultimatum, give the fish back, or get his boat sunk. The guy refused. The trotline owner pulled his 22 out, put a few holes in the boat & sunk it. A week or so later, the guy who was stealing everybody's fish & sometimes leaders & hooks came by the lumberyard where my Dad worked. My Dad of course already knew the situation & asked if he had been fishing lately. The guy claimed he had his boat in the shop, as he had hit a stump & it was being repaired. Dad said he gave a silent chuckle. He said the guy never messed with their lines again. in the 50s or 60s. Interesting thing was, back in the early 80s, I ran into a lawman at the river & somehow I drifted into that story (I forget why), and the lawman told me that it was he who sunk the guy's boat. Small world, ain't it?

While in today's time, we probably could not get away or even think of handling that situation that way, I have met Game Wardens since the 80s, that will act if someone is messing with your legal lines. If you have your license & are fishing legally & someone messes with you or your lines, inform the Game Warden. They are there to protect your rights, as well as others.

Not sure what the law is currently, but it used to be that if someone is stealing your fish, that is illegal. Also running someone else's lines is illegal.

Outfitter Nomore, good share!!!

As long as the gear is properly marked, it's trespass to chattels (illegal) to mess with another persons trotlines or jugs. Taking the fish or any part of the gear is theft.

I wouldn't shoot someone over it, but I would record as much as possible with the boats hull id in the video, go to the game warden with it, and let them know that I want to prosecute the jokers.
