I've got a trip coming up to the Guadalupe in June and wanted to get some new patterns tied to try out. I've seen several hellgrammites in the mouths of bass while fishing the Guadalupe, but I haven't seen a pattern that replicates them well.

I was looking for deer hair tips and saw that Pat Cohen has one called the Devil's Drifter which looked interesting.

The body is a pattern cut from ultra suede which I dyed with fabric dyes and tried to spot with a metallic marker. It has dumbbell eyes and in theory should ride hook point up keeping it from snagging on rocks.

I think I can clean this up a bit by working on positioning the ultra suede on the hook a bit better and being more horizontal with the copper ribbing, but it's a start. If anyone else has any suggestions or hellgrammite patterns they like to tie, I'm all ears.

Looks pretty sweet! You'll have to update us once you actually toss it.
