What's the purpose of the holes thru the hull?

Guy at Academy says it's just a result of construction, no real purpose. That's why the also make plugs for them. I know nothing about kayaks but that just doesn't make sense to me. Someone please enlighten me.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

scupper holes let the water drain out of the kayak.

It's a sit-on-top kayak, the scupper holes let water drain out. They have a purpose.

Scuppers do two things:

1: They allow water to drain from the deck
2: They're structural support for the top deck with hull.

There is a reason they have specialty Kayak shops. They know real answers to your questions. I edited the rest of my post in that it wasn't very nice.

Here are a couple of nice videos to consider when buying a new boat:

Sit on top vs sit in kayaks

Have fun.

The sit on top kayaks that have holes in them are constructed like bobbers. You can drench them in water and they will pop back to the surface like a bobber. You don’t have to worry about ocean waves or wake board boat waves sinking your kayak.
