I’m going to be camped out at Sowell creek on proctor Lake this weekend and have never fished this lake before. We normally go to Whitney but were unable to get campsite reservations there. I have two six year old boys and another couple with 7 and 8 year olds. We would like to get the kids to catch some fish but I just really have no idea where to start. If there is anyone familiar with this lake who is willing to share a little info or advise I would greatly appreciate it. I’m not expecting detailed honey hole locations, but just some general information or parts of the lake to try. Feel free to contact me via private message. Thanks so much in advance for any info your willing to share.

Sorry I haven’t gotten back with you. It’s been a busy day. Yes it will be from a boat

I've never been on proctor but have study maps. its a small lake so cant be hard to figure out. For Hybrids focus on humps near the dam. I fish live bait so shad is my ticket. Set up drifts and once you key in on some fish anchor up.

There is a temporary dam about 50 yards north of the current dam. Easily found with a depth finder. Also pull up to the island from the north and drift with live bait to the north. It gets deep slowly but then it starts dropping fairly quick. You will go from 5ft are so to 18ft fairly quickly. Promontory point on the south side have points that go out into the lake several yards. Some are deep drop offs and others extend a good ways. Hope this helps. It's a little early but Proctor gets a thermacline down around 13 to 15 feet during the summer. Little early but bait fish on your hook die below this level. There is also shad just south of you along the banks towards the dam. 5ft of water are so.

Well thanks for the advice. We caught a few. Not many though. Caught some crappie, and bass! Mostly off the rocky points! Fished the bridge after dark and nothing but gar , drum and carp! The kiddos had fun catching the gar! Wish I would have checked back in here over the weekend to see the info about the temporary dam and island. Oh well, next time if we go again!
