How’s everybody’s fishing been on Whitney lately? What areas are y’all finding fish at? I’m really trying to learn the lake like the back of my hand so help me out if you will please. Mainly looking for largemouth but i like catching em all.
And has anyone seen or caught any smallmouth there recently? I’ve heard about a few smallish over there but don’t know anyone who has caught one there.

There was a 3 pound smallie weighed in during South 40 on Whitney in February, so there's still a few around.

Banjo minnow should get you a bite just about anywhere. Behind the dam is always good.

Bad time to ask for info on Whitney. But yes, the smallmouth seem to making a reappearance. Water is crystal clear right now. I could see bottom in 15’+ today.

shad spawn was going a couple of weeks ago. Throw a walking bait inn the morning or a yellow magic then go with Watermelon Red.

I was pretty shocked a couple weeks ago when i was out there how clear the water was! But i was doing fine catching them no matter the clarity.

2 weeks ago when it was flat calm conditions you could easily see stripers chasing your bait 15 feet down in 40-60 fow. Its about as clear as I have seen it

I'm trying to learn Whitney better and had a good day (for me) today.
I caught lots on Whitney today (maybe 20 fish) but nothing over 3 pounds. Launched at McCown and went to that big cove directly across the lake and did well on topwater about halfway up the cove. Even caught a gar on topwater. Then went all the way to the end of the cove and saw tons of shad busting the surface but only caught 1 fish. It looked like a sandbass but was longer. Maybe that's what they call a hybrid. Then around 9am I went back across the lake to the East side just south of McCown where there are large flats and some islands. Really windy here. Caught 3 hybrids and 3 largemouth all on a chatterbait. It was really windy so I went north of the bridge to the coves on the east side. It was more protected and less windy but still some gusts. The water there was much more clear and I could see probably 10 feet down. Caught 4 more largemouth on an orange senko chicken rig. Worked my way back south along the coves back to the ramp and loaded my boat around 1pm.
