It is hard for that snake to bite you, it has to be in a soft part of your skin......

Trust your own instinct. Your mistakes might as well be your own, instead of someone else’s.

The coral snakes fangs are in the front of its mouth and fixed....not hinged like a pit viper. About 1/4" long and fixed makes some people think they have to chew on you or get the webbing between fingers. Myth....they can open their mouth quite wide and strike making a good puncture on naked skin. Clothing limits them more than other venomous Texas snakes.

Coral snakes are related to Cobras and in North America their venom is only second in toxicity to the Mojave rattlesnake.

Sorry for what happened to him but if you don't know what the snake is don't mess with it.

Their fangs are really irrelevant. Venom sacks are not attached the to the fangs, venom sacks are along the teeth and enters the victim through the cuts that the rows of teeth make. The longer they stay attached (as they chew) the more of a dose you get.

The saying is "red on black friend of jack, red on yellow kill a fellow" but not always 100% accurate to identify a Coral Snake.

I can never remember how the saying goes and just assume it is a poisonous coral snake.

True but for the uneducated, they can't go wrong if they leave all with a black nose alone.

It is the snake that they quit making antivenom for because it wasn't profitable, mainly because people rarely get bit by them.

Yes. You can still get it get it, I believe it's all expired but still used. There is another company that was working on another coral antivenom, but I don't think they have received FDA approval yet.
