My wife quit playing and singing for several years and started back about a year ago. She's loving it and performing at several places.
Have you considered doing your own covers of rocks songs? I have a friend that does a great acoustic cover of Sweet Child O' Mine. My wife has been playing around with When Doves Cry on the mandolin, Sara Jarosz style. Just have fun with it.

Well let me ask you this. When you get too old to physically do the things you love, like sing, will you regret not doing it?
I was first chair tenor sax player in Jr. High and Freshman year. Gave it up because it wasn't "cool". Would like to play again just to see if I still had it.

My folks tried to turn me into one of those child prodigy kids and mama had me in just about every kind of musical instrument lesson that you can imagine. I played violin, piano, banjo, mandolin, steel guitar, lap guitar, base guitar, and drums. Had a 3.5 octave vocal range with perfect pitch. I can still play just about any stringed instrument you put in my hands except a standard size guitar.. my hands are too small. Rebelled as soon as I could and while I tinker and I enjoy playing with others, I haven't really done much with it in 20 years. Ex husband used to tease me quite a bit about it so I just let it fall by the wayside.
I used to love to go dancing, but again, ex teased me about it so I stopped. Your ex is an ex for a reason. Now is the time to renew enjoyment of these things. I for one have a tin ear, tone deaf and can make cat's cry when I sing, so I think it is a shame that people with musical talent let it go to waste.

That borders on an art form as much as a talent.

Have you tried singing with a bunch of other musicians/singers in a home jam. That's how I got out of the closet with my guitar. Later started singing in my 50's with my wife harmonizing. Started going to bluegrass festivals and jamming all night long and eventually had our own band. You just have to find a way to ease into it.

Im a world class ballroom dancer, but got burned out after 20 years in the game.
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

If there was a bar room Olympics with darts, pool, and fooseball, I would win gold for sure. I have some inconsistency in pool, but I own the dart board and food table....

Wow, we have to know each other or at least been in some jams together. This is how I got over the stage fright demon. Started at the Garland Square saturday night jams about 12 years ago. It took a long time of just doing it, singing and playing guitar to finally get over the fear and settle into a comfort zone where I actually looked forward to my turn. Finally got a band and a highlight was an auditorium packed with people. It doesn't happen overnight.

We may have missed each other as we stopped going regularly about that time.

Late 2007 perhaps, then he passed away the next year or so. The square is not as lively today as it once was. But they still have a good jam I hear. I have a small band that we mostly just practice on a weeknight. I had back surgery on the 7th, so I am recovering right now, but plan to get up a gig or two in a few months. I bet we have numerous mutual friends!
