On the water early this morning for what I had decided would be a awesome day of Topwater, Spinnerbait and Sq Bill cranking
I mean everything was perfect, good cloud cover just the right amount of wind pattern should be simply, wind blown points and rocky banks with shad spawning
All morning was a dink fest, almost left at noon but decided to try something completely different, headed for the back of my favorite creek arm, pulled up to a dock in 6 feet of water by now it's 2 pm, picked up a wacky rigged senko and went to work, by 3 pm I could have easy had 25lbs including a 9.56 kicker
Wonder how many times I've zeroed because I had made my mind up what the fish should be doing before I ever got on the water

I think its the #1 mistake made. I know its still mine and im not bad at changing it up completely during the day. Just get stuck someday when I know that they should be where I want. Always know exactly what happened on the way home though

Great trip with a GIANT kicker! pre conceived notions get me all the time, when they are not doing what I think they are supposed to be doing. Good part is you did figure them out. Great trip!

I'm still trying to figure out what the difference was, I fished the same places I have 100 times before under the same conditions and they were always there, yesterday it was like they had just spawned, they were in the back of the creek on the north side of the lake on the last few docks before a spawning area, I thought maybe there was a bluegill bed near by but I didn't see anything, no fish or beds
It was like it was still March, could those big fish just now be spawning ? I didn't think our spring weather was that bad

Yes Sir, 2 weeks ago Pre-fishing for tournament, I KNEW where the fish were going to be, zeroed, with only 3 little pick ups, we completely changed tactics on tournament day, and ended up winning 2nd, driving home it dawned on me, had i changed up one little thing, we probably could've won. Oh well, that's how you learn!

LOL, I guess that's why it never gets old to me
Reminds me of the last time I got tought a lesson, right the opposite conditions as this time, front had blown through the evening before so we had bluebird sky with NO wind and clear water so I'm fishing finesse baits on 8 lb Flouro and my buddy from work is throwing a BLACK 10" worm with a 3/4 oz lead sinker with all these glass beads and junk on it, after he lands his 4th nice fish I break out the power worms

LOL! That's further proof, just when we THINK we have them figured out, they pull the ole switcharoo!

I have a similar story to yours, we get on the Shad Spawn, fish are blowing up on the shad, i catch the 1st fish on a Kelly J, my buddy is throwing a swim bait, fish are busting all around us, nothing, not another fish for 15 minutes, my buddy picks up a T-Rigged 4" Berkley Havoc Bottom Hopper, catches 5 in a row, mean while, i have whooped a froth on the water with the Kelly J and a Spinner bait, time to switch to the 4" worm! Go Figure!
