Saturday went to Monticello caught several fish, but had a chatter bait white with chartreuse on belly with chartreuse grub trailer.
I could feel fish slap it and follow it all the way back to the boat ,right at the boat they would grab the tail or slap it again then swim off. This happened 10 to 15 times. was my color off just a little , not retrieving it correctly
I'm kind of lost on this one.
Thanks for any responses
Monte

Maybe slow your retrieve, give it a couple of pauses.

When that happens I usually speed up, make it more erratic, or change to a more erratic bait to trigger more of a reaction.

I had several of these same instances on a local lake and after catching a couple of bluegill and crappie realized what was happening.

Fished Monticello a couple of weekends ago. Was having the same thing happen, then caught a couple of sandbass. I don't think Monticello used to have them, but now that the gate is open between it and Bob Sandlin, they're moving in.

Did you trim your skirt to the same length as the hook?

Sounds like short strikes to me, I had sandbass choking on my stuff, never short striking.

I’d switch to a swim jig or small weedless swimbait like a skinny dipper in that circumstance. Maybe even a senko.
