Same as you get with a lawyer without the expense of one. Thats what.

Good luck to your family member. Hopefully they learned something and wont do it again.

Exactly. That's one reason why Brent Bowen comes so highly recommended. On a first name basis with Denton's DA team and has earned their respect. Goes a long way in deals like this.

Because a lawyer will help mitigate the 90 different additional penalties they can apply for driving while impaired. There is not a cookie cutter punishment for DUI. A lawyers sole purpose is not to get his client found innocent or not guilty.

I disagree that people should not get a lawyer, even if they plan to plead guilty. I agree that people should be accountable for their actions, and if you were drunk when you got pulled over, I think you should admit it, but that doesnt necessarily mean you should not get a lawyer or expose yourself to everything the judge can think of to punish you with.

100%

With a DWI charge, you need an attorney - whether you believe you were guilty of it or not. Going without one is a mistake.

That said, a decent one will cost you $5k, and if you decide to not plea and fight it with a trial, count on $10k.

I've got a young 21 year old kid in my family going through one right now. It's rough. I hope, and think, he's learned his lesson...but time will tell.

To whoever got one above - tell them to keep their head up and take it day by day. Like all things, it'll eventually pass. He/she will have an experience under their belt that they can hopefully share with others to keep them out of the same trouble.

Hes learned his lesson. Just needs to minimize the damage it does to the rest of his life. Just finished his first semester of college at 23 and started a new job. He knows what he did and knows he has he77 to pay for a while. He also knows hes lucky there was no accident or others involved. Just needs a good attorney to help him get to the next step.

Because you only want to plead guilty to things that you actually did. If the cops pile additional charges on top of the true ones, it's a good idea to have an attorney to get the extra charges dismissed.

What if you'd been drinking enough that the officer could smell booze on your breath, but you were below the legal BAC, and your driving was not impaired? (perhaps you were out at dinner and had a few glasses of wine) Would you want to plead guilty and take the maximum punishment? Or would you want to attempt to get the charges dismissed?
