just curious if your are running the same pitch on the prop compared to the ZX200? May have something to do with the lift of the hull and its just something that you aren't used to?

Do you know the weight of the two boats, usually heavier boats rides better
The older Champions, Rangers and Tritons that everyone called Leadsleds sure did ride good in rough water

Heavy older Tritons? I always thought the old tritons were light and would chine like crazy (unlike old champs and rangers).

Keep her trimmed all the way down in really rough water and let it rip. Not so rough water begin you trim to a happy medium. Boat will porpoise at low speeds and any trim.

The old Champions were light in my opinion. They rode great because of hull design. The 221 was listed as 1600lbs

You were probably trimmed up too much. In the really rough stuff I don't like to be trimmed all the way down either. I like to trim up just a touch to get a bit more lift on the nose but not so much that you're bouncing all over the place and can't control the boat.

Could just be the type of waves and direction.

it's according to which Triton hull you had, HP hull were faster but chine walked at about 68 mhp , XS hull slower but much smoother in rough water

Let it rip and spear the first wave you come to. That's fun.

Was thinking the same thing. If you trim all the way down in rough stuff you're in for a bad day and some wet clothes.

so, basically ...nothing of significance?

I bet the older boats were lighter when fully rigged.

I know I took a 2003 and updated it last year and added about 200 pounds of weight just changing graphs, batteries, and trolling motor.

.....my take on the OPs situation is this. Every boat is different...even same year and similarly equipped boats. It's gonna take a little seat time to get it riding as smooth as THAT boat is going to ride.

The ZX225 sits plenty high in the front. If there are waves that big to spear one, you do not need to be running at rip. There is a lot of difference in rough water and big rolling waves. There are levels of rough water that this boat will take on just fine. Each of those requires different driving techniques.

- One foot or less will allow you to get on top with trim up. If the bow is rising and falling because of the trim and lower speed you have to find that happy medium between trim and speed.
- Rough water in one foot waves. Run with no trim so the bow is cutting through and giving you the best ride. This boat will run all out on these waves if you so choose to trim up; still finding that sweet spot between speed and ride.
- Rough Water in two foot waves. You can catch one over the bow and that is usually every 5th wave. Still run with trim down finding that sweet spot with the throttle not going fast enough to spear one. Backing off as much as needed to allow the boat to make the top of every wave coming.
- Big Water and big rollers calls for a much slower run; throttling up and back to time the climbs up and over. Angling side ways to the far shoreline is sometime necessary. Making your turn in a cove or against a non windy bank to make the run back to the other side of the lake. This takes lots of time; but you will survive the run without taking on water.
