I went and bought a 67 MH pole and a baitcast reel. Had them through 14lb fluorocarbon on there but was wondering what you guys use for reds/trout/all the other fish that are in brackish waters? Its a 7:1:1 initially it was a 200 buck combo, but it was on sale and couldnt pass it up. Any tips help!

Thanks.

Last time I checked Trinity it was 100% fresh. I regretted not taking crappie gear with me :-)

For kayak fishing I use 30lb power braid with 6' short butt ML rod (smth like Berkeley Lightning, $40). Plus reel like Shimano Sienna 2500 (about $30). If you fish from the boat -- look for 7' rods. Used to use leaders, but then it passed...

Its 100% fresh? Even out by double bayou and Smith Point? Ive seen people catch trout and reds there. Even as far up as the locks up river! So from a boat would you still suggest 30lb braid?

Some use braid, some use nylon monofilament. I havent heard a lot about fluorocarbon line out in the bay. I like fluorocarbon leader. I like braid, 30 or 40 pound, with a fluorocarbon leader something like 20 or 25 pound stuff.

I dont think any line or rod or reel, unless its a complete piece of junk, will keep you from catching fish. You get where you can find the fish, your set up sounds fine to me.

So this may be a dumb question. But I know the white bass have/will be running. Do you think they would come down as far as the locks on the trinity if the water isnt salty at all? I have a ton to learn.
