Thinking of upgrading. I love my Javelin, but momma wants a console to keep some of the wind off of her.

What boats and motors should I absolutely stay away from?

I read something on a craigslist add where a guy said to stay as far away as possible from the Optimax?

Why do people rag Nitros? Do they not handle water well?

Def going to buy used. Really wanted a skeeter, but I really don't want to spend that much money. I found a 2009 that was still $33k.

I want dual console and 20' min. I'm open after that.

And what is wrong with the older Nitros? And what are you considering the "newer ones".

I have a 2017 Nitro Z19 I've been in lots of boats for bang to buck ration, a solid boat. the new hull design handles rough water and dead stop to plan is crazy quick. Previous years water would come over stern when slowed quickly, Design improvements eliminates issue.

If you want a Skeeter then you should keep shopping until you find one you want. There are some great deals out there, you just have to be patient.

If you are handy you can get some good deals on boats that are not cosmetically great. I just bought a skeeter 202c for a great deal because it needed new carpet and a wet sand and buff job on the gel coat. Defiantly not for everyone but something to think about.

I know where there is a nice 20i with a 250HPDI for sale. $16,000. It's a divorce sale. A friend of mines dads boat. Dual console ...older graphs, one talon. 101 Fortrex. Trying to remember more. I fished it a few times two years ago. Very solid boat.

Im shopping hard at the moment.

You appear to be shopping a more expensive window than I am.

However, Nitros simply do not hold value. Their build quality is just not on par with skeeter/ranger and the 1990 early 2000 boats have them a terrible reputation. The current Z series are good but you will pay comparable to some bigger manufactures.

Ive read the HPDI Yamahas are to be avoided. The OX 66 before or the HPDI series II are what you want.

Stay away from FICHT Evinrude, but the older Johnson Carburated are built well.

I havent done much Optimax research but fish out of my buddies 08 250 and it runs well.

Lots of folks are jumping into Aluminum Rangers but Ive seen a bunch for sale that makes me think folks are quickly wanting to go into a fiberglass boat.

If you buy a Skeeter you can do the Skeeter owners tournament

Another buddy of mine has a 95 ranger and it runs and fished great so I would not hesitate to look at a little older Ranger.

Most all manufactures have gone wood free after 2000 so transom issue should be greatly reduced on anything newer?

I also want to see current tags so I know the boat was used. Carpet and gel coats arent deal breakers but a pain to do yourself and expensive to pay someone else for.

Also be aware of ages of batteries, thats $500 in a hurry on a 20 boat.

When will your Javelin be available?

Thanks for the reply.

I am not sure if it will be available after pricing these all day.

The ol wild Javelina does a great job, just needs that second console. New carpet, new seats, new Xi5 tm and runs like a top.

Who told you to stay away from Merc Optimax's? I probably wouldn't buy a 2000-2001 Optimax but after that they have been great motors.

You should be able to find a 2003-2006 Skeeter ZX225-250 for around 20k or less.. Look for one with a recent rebuild, and a solid T/M.. Unless I win a new boat by the grace of God, grin I'm keeping my 225... Great boat, she'll love it. fish
