crappie fished in years get together last minute it makes for some great times. Gary and I have been best of friends since we were 7 years old. We began playing golf together at that time and were teammates throughout high school winning a state championship together our Sr. Year. We were also college roommates for a few years. Our competitive "rivalry" has always been friendly for the most part except when we were opponents in Little League.
His family lived below the dam at Lake Texana and when it opened in the early 80's he and his dad would let me tag along fishing out of their extra wide/extra deep aluminum boat then upgrading to a Skeeter that would flat out run. We spent many a day chasing bass and crappie making lots of great memories. We have made a few saltwater trips together over the years and have talked about a crappie trip but just haven't made it happen. We chatted a little on Friday and decided to change that. He drove down from Houston yesterday morning and we made it to the lake about 11am. We ended up with 38. Today we hit the lake early so he could get back to Houston and wound up with 26. Today we had to work a little harder and the bite was pretty slow. It was a fun filled weekend sharing stories and reminiscing of past trips. Majority of our fish came on Stump Thumper Jigs in 13-20FOW suspended from 12-15ft. Water temp has risen into the low 80's.
