Well, I went to Lake Ray Hubbard Sunday got on the water around 3:00. I put in at the ramp across from Basspro due to the high wind from the South. Started out on the South side of the Bridge close to Basspro around the buoys. started out slow catching mostly drums. then I was three birds diving into the water east by the Dalrock exit sign. I decided to check it out. There was one boat heading west towards the birds as I approached from the West. At that time I realized I was in a huge boil of shad. The other boat apparently was not throwing a lure they cared for. I was all by my self so no pictures. I was catching two to three at a time for about thirty minutes at first. The other boat got pissed and decided to drive off. The whole school went somewhere, no clue where. So I stayed in the area and the birds and the fish came back. Once I was back on top of them they stayed for about an hour. I caught many twelve inch Hybrids, two to three at a time. I had the school all to my self. The fish were still there when I needed to leave. If anyone has been to that boat ramp on a nice weekend on Sunday, you know what I am talking about. Some people really have no clue how to load or unload a boat. Jetskis all over the place and lines of people. I do it all by myself and I have a twenty-foot pontoon. I had an awesome day thank you Lord for giving me fish.

Same kind of experience on Hubbard today. Lots of undersized hybrids mixed in with the sandies, so be cautious about identifying your catch. It is easy to damage young hybrids mouths when removing the hooks, so be gentle with the pliers. Looking forward to the day that we see plentiful large hybrids on Hubbard again!

Try turning down the barbs on your hooks. The fish will often fall off on the deck of the boat when you lay them on the bottom of your rig. Yes you will lose a few fish but it is great for those that are released.

I cut two of the barbs off my trebles or replaced with a single hook. Reduces the hook up ratio but when they are on fire it really does not matter.
