Took my kiddos and some of their friends to the lake after gills. Action was good on a main lake point with worms on the bottom in 5-8ft. Corks weren't so good, a slip cork rig might have worked. Had some nice bluegill early and big greenies later.
Some gills were 8+ eeks

Some greens reaching 9" OMG

Kids and big slabs seem to go together!!

That's a question for more knowledgeable people like yourself or Banker..... cheers They seemed late turning on out here in West Texas, been a slow spring.
They are off the bank for the most part in 5-6ft water in the high 60's and slow bottom techniques are working best.....so maybe they are bedding out a little deeper since the water is so clear?

The males have really turned on the colors lately!!!

Some of the female greens and bluegill look fat!!!

I'd say they are either spawning now or really close, what y'all think??

Great post Blues and some super slabs. I do not target sunfish but based on other post looks to me the spawn is fixing to start in your neck of the woods. I think they might be staging for spawn. Just my two cents.

Side Note: Those Green Sunfish look like they may have some Bluegill mixed in! They are some "Chunks". So are the Bluegill. I learn a lot reading the post in this section!

Gitter Done, you could very well be right on them being hybrid. Hopefully somebody will chime in and let us both know.... cheers
Posts in this section will educate you for sure, lots of knowledge shared by some of the best gill fisherman in Texas!!!!

In your second post 1st fish I'd say green/bluegill nice slabs rockon

Plus #1.(Agree) Green Hybrid on your first fish second post. I would also say there might be a couple more Green Hybrids as well. thumb

Side Note: One thing to look for is the mouth of the fish. If the mouth is more like a bass it's a Green. Body of a Green, and the mouth like a Bluegill is usually a Green Hybrid. The Hybrid in most cases will usually have a smaller mouth. thumb
