Just bought a Lowrance hook 7 for my center console. Ive been reading about the Navionics+ card that i can buy for 149.99. Is it recommended to get it or would i be ok without it? I am new to bigger fishfinders like the hook 7.

you need some type of high def card. Navionics is a great card. you get more contour lines with a good card and some lakes don't show up at all on basic stock stuff.

You will be okay without it, but I highly recommend getting it. The contours, buoy markers and structure markers will change the way you fish!

Before you drop the money on it, check out the available mapping from Navionics on their webapp and see if the noticeable difference with and without the card is worth the money to you. In my opinion, not being able to see depth contours on your chartplotter is really limiting the potential of the unit. Navionics Webapp
