Fished a couple of days this week with my friend Jeff. Fished Wednesday and Thursday two of my three days off. Would have fished Friday but the rain kept me in. Wind played a huge factor where we fished. We fished from our kayaks on Wednesday and wade fished on Thursday. We fished Decker Lake in Austin on Wednesday from 9am till 2pm. Found good numbers of nice Bluegill fishing coves by reed beds. Fish were in 2 to 4 feet of water. Small soft plastics on ultralight tackle were used. Chartreuse/Black was the color that got the best results. A couple of bass in the 2 to 3 pound range rounded out the catch. A few of the Bluegill were kept for an upcoming fish fry. On Thursday we fished a private section of Miller Creek in Blanco County. The fly rod got a good workout and we waded. Fished from 10am till 3pm and caught some nice Longear,Redbreast, and Bluegill. Fish were hanging close to grass beds in 2 to 3 feet of water. Got good results on a wide variety of flies. Yellow/Black Beetle Bugs, Red/Black Lady Bugs, and a Chartreuse sinking spider got good results. Hope to get some more fishing time next week!

Laker...Great report...Is Decker lake still a warm water body due to the power plant? We play golf a couple times a year at the Bluebonnet course which is next door to the lake, but never see any activity from the smoke stacks.

Thanks for the report. I am finally seeing large numbers of bluegill in the shallow water on Lake Somerville too. I caught a bunch of 8.5 to 9 inch bluegill one day this week. Spawning on the main lake should be starting on the next full moon.

The use of the power plant on Decker has been cut down a lot over the past several years. Austin Energy has only been using the plant during the summer months. I did not have my graph on that trip so I do not know what the water temperature was. The lake looked good and the fish were healthy and full of fight. Good signs of a good lake. I did hear from the locals who fish Decker a lot that Austin Energy is planing to shut down the plant sometime in the next 10 years.

As always nice report Curtis! Love the weekly updates! cheers

Side Note: I read a new story that Austin Energy will have the Decker Plant closed by 2027! hmmm They have already cut down the use of the plant 80 percent over the past three years. thumb
