I recently purchased a couple of Stradic C4+ reels and want to treat them right. I've been fishing for 50 years with spinning reels and I always just reel to close the bail. Have been doing it this way since the 60's with a Garcia 300. Recently, I was told that I should be flipping the bail closed with my hand instead of the reeling in method. I figured, if my 300 stood up for many years, surely the Stradic would also. Any opinions on this

I'm a reel to close guy myself for nearly 40 years, never could understand why guys manual close it. Some say it eliminates line twist and loops, not sure if I buy that, some say it's to fully engage the line to the spool, not sure.

Manually close it. It helps to prevent line twist.

When I loan my spinning rod to my cousin, I tell him to manually close it, but he never does and I get over bearing line twists and have to cut some line off. I KEEP TELLING HIM TO DO IT MANUALLY, but he never does. Doing it manually will save you a lot of problems in the future because it reduces line twist, as mentioned above. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

In one smooth motion manually close the bail and take any slack/loop out of the line.

personally - it depends on the reel -
responsive reels that trigger the bail to close before starting to spin and are fully closed within 1/4 ro 1/2 turn - you don't have to worry about line twist as an issue and can close themselves.
But a LOT of reels on the market (read cheap) - have a lot of play in them and will start to spin (sometimes 2-3 rotations even) before the reel will start to close or close fully - those reels you have to manually close or you risk a lot of line twist.

I always manually close it. It seems like I've had less problems with wind loops and line twist since I started doing it that way.
