I just recently bought a boat with a humminbird unit with side imaging. I am trying to use it to find fish but i seem to just get frustrated with it and just fish where I think the fish are. How many of y'all use the graph to decide if you will fish the spot or not? Trying to get better at reading it.

I use my side scan to find submerged/ off shore structure all the time. When I see bait and fish on SI, WITH STRUCTURE CLOSE, I will always fish it.

It is the number one weapon on the boat.

You need to take a trip with an electronics guide who can set that up and show you how to read it. They aren't real expensive and will really help your confidence in locating areas to fish.

Take some screen shots of where you think fish are. Go back and look at them when you're not fishing and you might see fish then. It seems like when I'm fishing or just cruising for spots, I miss a lot of detail that is in the screen shots.

It's the best tool on a boat, I don't stop to fish until I see what I'm looking for. I may graph 10 points and 1 will have them set up on it.
