What is the best knot for braid and what in your opinion is the best braid to use? I have been using the uni knot and was just curious if that is the one I should be using.. Appreciate any feed back and apologize if this has already been covered, couldn't find it anywhere on the site.

Berkeley Braid Knot. I like Suffix 832 performance braid. Seaguar Smackdown Tournament braid is awesome, but too limp under 50# in my opinion. It'll throw wind knots around your guides and rod tip all day long.

As far as I remember, PowerPro recommendation is palomar.
Light tackle carp fishing vet. PB carp: common 27lb - mirror 27.5lb - grassy 42lb - ghost 14lb

Now here's something funny. I've been using braid ever since Lynch Line came out. Never could, and still can't, make a Palomar knot hold. I see lots of other good fishermen using it, and I'm sure it works for them, but not me. I either tie a double uni or a fishing fool knot. A fishing fool is just a round turn and a uni knot. I was tieing it long before it hit television. Just a natural improvement to the uni.
If a Palomar works, great, but I can't make it work in braid.
I use an Alberto for braid to leaders, but a double uni works just as well.

I grew up using a Palomar for everything. So I used it exclusively for 40 years. Been using the uni and fish-n-fool and don't see myself going back to the Palomar much.

I am a strange knot tier. I tie a 11 rounds and put 2 back thru the beginning loop. Works for everything with me, as long as you cinch it while you hold it tight, it works like a charm. If you just KINDA tighten it, it will spool out on you. BUT, you can use 6 or 7 turns on a normal clinch knot, too. Works for all kinds of lines. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Palomar variant for braid and uni for mono (though i may switch that for the fishing fool as i've been loving some of the florocoated/multi-polymer lines and they seem to be a bit "slippier" than standard mono.
@MCIPinkie - I found that the standard palomar can slip on some of the "slippier" and "thinner" braids - so instead of a single overhand i do a two pass overhand and that has held much better. On some of the cheaper braids you can't pull it tight but on any braid that has issues having a standard palomar hold you can double the wraps on that overhand and it holds w/o slipping.
doesn't seem to degrade the line strength any more than the standard palomar.
and at the end of the day... you tie the knots that work for you, your fishing styles/types, and your experience.

If you like the uni knot, I'd try the doubled uni. It's the uni knot, but doubling the line. Great knot for all lines and terminal connections. Also use it for the swivel on c-rigs.

Uni-knot is the only knot I use.
