Has anyone been on this stretch of the Llano River recently? I am curious how much dragging is required at its current level.

Contact the Castell General Store, they'll be able to give fill you in.

It's about 12 miles, so it's a long, all-day float.

I did it last year in one day and it every bit of 12 hours. I'll probably split it up into two days this year so I can do more fishing.

Had a buddy that did this stretch two weeks ago. He said that he would not do it again due to dragging until the area upriver got some rain. He said it was pretty and the fishing was okay, but not worth the dragging at all. Said it was a tough and long and very tiring day.

UPDATE: This past weekend we fly fished and kayaked the Llano River from Hwy 87 to Castell. Like everyone has stated, the river is low and that area needs some rain. With that being said, it was still very doable with only the occasional drag. The fishing was fantastic and the scenery is worth the little bit of dragging you might have to do. I would still recommend this stretch if you have been wanting to go.
