I know that a lot of fisherman are superstitious, or have a good luck routine or items and was curious to hear what some of those are.

I know for me, it used to be my wife. When we first met she would call just to check in and be curious with her questions and it was sweet. And it seemed that I would always catch a fish while talking to her. So I thought, man, that is now my good luck charm and I would have her call me during tournaments for luck. Well ten years later she only calls to ask me when I am going to be home, and so now it's just a little annoying lol... And when I think back, I realized that the luck she used to bring is probably because I would stop moving the bait to talk to her and that was all the fish needed to decide to grab it. HA!

Nowadays my 'good luck' thing is to chant 'here fishy fishy' lol. It started with my daughters, but now I do it by myself, grown man, when I need a fish. OH, and I NEVER pump gas the night before or day of a fishing trip... not sure if that is a good luck thing, or a superstitious thing or an ACTUAL thing I think fish will smell it on my bait and run away.

anyway, what's your good luck thing? How did you decide that was it?

Never catch a bass on the first cast. If I do, it just ruins the whole day for me.

Really? I am by no means that experienced, but I would of thought that was a great sign... It almost never happens for me, but would be happy. What is the thought behind it?

The thought behind catching a fish on the first cast is a good one as you suggested. I had a very old friend and fisherman of 80 years ask me that question of; how many fish have you caught on the first cast and did I know why? His thought was that your bait was laying on the deck in the SUN and was very warm if not hot. Bass are Cold Blooded and are constantly seeking pray with a different body temperature than their own. Thus, a lizard, snake , frog or any critter sunning itself in a bush or on a rock that gets in the water gets eaten immediately.

I proved his theory to be correct by building a HOT Box to heat my spinner bait blades in two tournaments both in a row. I boated 12 Bass on 12 different spinners one cast after the other as fast as I could get them out of the box. All baits were already tied on 12 rods ready to go.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

After idling away from dock and in open water, I always stop the boat and give the good Lord thanks for the day. Short and sweet.

Pretending I'm teaching a kid how to work a bait and everything to do from rod position, speed of retrieve, to where to expect the bite to occur, and how it will feel. I think it just makes me focus more.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

On average, your heart beats 100,000 times a day. One day, one of those heartbeats will be your last. Then what?

The answer is found in Jesus Christ who said "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10
