It was disgusting to look at, but the fish seemed to fight excessively hard, so it wasn’t too sick.

Something tried to eat him. Maybe alligator gar. Looks like a falcon fish and that place is full of far.

Osprey may have bit off more than it could chew.

Maybe from a cormorant. See some similar around central Texas

From the bite marks I would guess Alligator just because of the width of the bite on the back and then narrows like a snout toward the stomach, or maybe a really big Gar.

Looks like the other wounds were just as bad but already healed up some. Shows you how tough they are

That's my guess. Hate them, when a bunch of them are around the fishing gets super tough.

Well it can’t be a gar because the TFF experts have said many times that gar don’t eat bass. hammer
It could be a comorant, plenty of those around. I was thinking maybe it was some kind of bacteria infection or something. The fish was blind in its other eye, reminds me of the “dog named lucky” joke. (If you don’t remember that, you’re prob young).

My guess is you are at Choke and it was a Gar.

There are no fish in Choke Canyon, it’s the Dead Sea... cool
