Anyone having any luck below the Dam? I went this morning and was skunked. I went after I saw on the news that they were generating from 6am - midnight.

TLDR for a lot of y'all - just ramblng from an old man who cant do the stuff anymore. I don't think i ever told this story beforebut i might of.

Isn't this the time of year when the water get's all nasty smelling. Or is that an August thing. Been so long i can't remember. I used to go up there Friday nights and sometimes not come back till Sunday. They moved the fence way up closer last time I went just to look around. When I last fished there it was a purty good and accurare cast but if you could land a big old gizzard head all the way up in the hole right after they shut off the generators with a 4 oz egg sinker and and about a 4' leader, you could get some big ones.

I think 17 lbs was my biggest which isn't all that much. I had several on that had nailed a pencil and I not get enough drag to turn them them when they swam back upstream into the turbine. You could always feel the sudden abnormal shaking right before the line went slack. That was a really long time ago. BG90's was all the current rage.

I had the biggest Penn open face they made at the time. I got to be friends with some of the regulars who showed me lots of the ropes when i was greenhorn. Still have that reel. I could hit the wall with it but it sure was hard on those high dollar baits. Man I wanted one of those nice new style light skinny rods (back then) but couldn't afford one so i used a big ole honkin heavy 13' Wright Mcgill broom stick.

If Any of you guys remember the year long surveillance and sting by local GWs from Texas, Oklahoma, and USFW busting lots of people and fish markets for buying fish illegally. There was a guy from OK City that would come down every weekend and he had two deep freezes in Sherman where he would send his 2 kids kids in when they had two limits. then they would come back and do it again - sometimes 3 times in a night.

USFW dude up on the hill in the dark getting it all on night vision video recordings. Most of those fish were snagged. He would wait till after the generators shut down when they would stack up in their by the dam like cordwood and go to snagging. I quit going right before the bust so never found out what kind of charges he wound up with. Man that was a long time ago. My shoulder would have gone out a long time ago If I'd kept it up with that rig. Thanks for reading for those that took the time. cheers

The lake has been turning over for over a month now and will probably continue to do so for another week or so until the weather cools down. That is what is causing that nasty smell and white goop on the rocks below the dam.

With Denison Dam being about an 80 mile roundtrip for me, I decided not to go this weekend after reading here about the nasty water quality. I have another free weekend in a few weeks so hopefully the conditions will be better then.

There hasn't been a guide boat below the dam for several months, the fish have moved on downstream.

Catfish guide was in his airboat with clients last weekend and caught a nice limit of blue cats.

Anyone have a report for up here? Thinking about heading up Sunday morning. Gonna bring some gizzards from lavon. Would like stripers but catfish will do also. Any help I'd appreciate it.

I just went last Saturday. Fished from sun down till about 10:30pm. Caught a nice blue cat just over 5 lbs on cut skipjack. No other bites. Except for the chiggers!!
