Actually pushing it thru and cutting the barb is the preferred way for me, really is not that painful. Heals alot quicker. I'm an expert level 8 at this.

I agree, but it's amazing how easy they go in, and how hard it is to push them on through.

Boy Howdy, had a DD22 in the palm of my hand, buried. I Pushed it down and back up and then got the barb out enough
to cut off. I can't remember much in my life that hurt as much as twisting that hook up through the palm of my hand.
Couldn't get a line around it where it would pull it out. I threw that lure away... OMG

Good news, good news. Good news the beard will hide the hole until it heals, good news it missed eyes and nose. Wouldn't have been a lol if that happened. thumb

My Wife put a gold spoon hook (single hook type) in her thumb. We got royally scr**ed at a doc-in-the-box in Baytown. They didn't even have a tool to cut the hook or pull it out. After they numbed the area, I finally found enough strength to cut the hook with a pair of old side cutters. I even had to let them borrow my needle nose pliers. The "doctor" felt so bad, she gave me a bottle of lidocaine, a syringe and needle.

WE STILL GOT A HUGE BILL IN THE MAIL, THOUGH!

I respectfully disagree about pushing them through being the best way. The string trick does NO additional damage to flesh as does pushing a hook through.I have done the string trick on myself twice. Once with a #5 hook in the palm buried all the way to the shank. I have done it to others at least 8 or 10 times and the are shocked how painless it is.
