I want to change my motor guide to an Ultrex. The motor guide measures 52 inches. I have a friend who says that is too long in an ultrex. Guidance please. I am running a Triton TRX 21.

I wouldn't go less than 52 if it was me. The big selling point to get an ultrex is to have spotlock. The advantage to spotlock is to stay out in deeper water on windy days. If the prop lifts out of the water then you won't be happy. Measure the top of the bow to where you need the head in the water and it will tell you what size minimum you need.

Elmo,

We have seen the majority of bass boats this year change from the 45" shaft to the 52" shaft. Most dealerships were putting on the 45" shaft as standard equipment. Again we have seen those that are upgrading to the Ultrex that had a 45" shaft motor changing to the 52" shaft. The longer the better. I never fish shallow enough to have the need to raise the shaft so a long shaft 52" is better for me.
