What kind of tips are you looking for? Fishing, camping locations, general information? I've done the trip from Bakers to Devils Back several times and would be happy to give up some info. You can PM me if you'd like.

I guess the main thing id like to know is if there is a particular lure you found to work well? color?

I've done really well on a Yamamoto creature bait in watermelon red. Really light weight or split shot. A Senko type bait works well also. Anywhere you see some matted grass or pads, I've caught a few on hollow body frogs. I think downsizing will get you bit more often than not.

I have floated the devils several times from Bakers Crossing to Blue Sage subdivision. Ought to be a bucket list trip for everyone. You can catch smallmouth and largemouth all along this river. In some of the backwater areas off the main current with weed beds and pads there are some really good LMB. A weightless or very lightly weighted Texas-rigged or Wacky-rigged worm, Senko, Hags Tornado, Lake Fork Ring Fry...will do great in these backwater areas. As will spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and frogs. Long casts due to the ridiculously clear water. Watermelon red do seem to work well in this beautifully clear water. In the faster water we have caught tons of good smallies fishing directly in the current. In the moving channels, rapids, base of the rapids...I have done best on a 4" curly tailed grubs on a 1/8-1/4oz jighead any color.....as long as it's chartreuse! Also a great moving water bait that seems forgotten anymore: hollow tubes like the Strike King Coffee Tubes with the jighead inside them bounced along the rocky bottom across the current. Again in watermelon red, green pumpkin... Whenever you come up on some faster water get out and walk the bank and fish it before floating over it. In the deeper moving water small crankbaits(squarebills), jerkbaits(both hard and soft plastic), spinnerbaits...work. Trip of a lifetime! Y'all enjoy!

...since you asking for TIPS .....
1.) don't get drunk on Bud Light
2.) don't let your boat float away into the Devil's River after drinking Bud Light
3.) don't try to swim after your floating away boat after drinking your Bud Light
4.) don't try swimming for your boat fully clothed in blue jeans and long sleeve shirt after drinking your Bud Light
... this is what one fellow did during our last fishing trip on the Devil's River and we found him drowning out in the middle of the river. drug him back to shore and what did he say to us ...... DILLY, DILLY !!!
