Thumpy can you explain the width adjustment you referred to in your post?

I replied to your pm, but I was referring to the side scan width. Shrink it down to about half and see if it helps

I bought a Hummingbird 596c HD and can never get clear images in DI as a matter of fact never even see tree images like in demo mode.
I have gone by bridge columns and they look like thin lines large trees look the same. I have reset to factory settings and still cannot get it to show images as I would expect. Does anyone else use one and mind sharing the settings you use or any suggestions on what settings may work.

you need to adjust your contrast on your SI. think of contrast as a fine tuning of the image. you can freeze frame the si side, then tune it, sometimes si sensitivity needs to go way down and contrast way up, this is common on soft bottom lakes. the muck absorbs alot of the pings, so turn your CHART speed up too, because it makes the unit ping more and faster.

that is as small school of crappie on either a few rocks or very scant brush.

the type of transducer u use is important too, you cab get a dedicated DI trandsucer and a switchbox from humminbird, and switch to the DI transducer to get detailed, clear DI IMAGES.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Sorry this picture may be hard to see. But I have a few questions. I purchased a new Humminbird Piranhamax 4 Di thinking it was going to be a huge improvement from sonar. I have a jon boat I crappie fish on and I took it out to a small lake to give it a test run. Not very happy with what I got.

1. Why is there so much feedback on the image. I have to turn the sensitivity down to 2 to get a blank canvas and on my sonar I run a clean picture at a 7.
2. I was under the impression that Down Imaging was going to give you a more 3D look at what was underneath you, all it looks like to me is a Amber Colored sonar.

So I'm wondering if I need to just take it back to the store and get my money back and keep using my cheap humminbird. Let me know what yall think.

As some others have said... I'm having a hard time justifying the money spent on electronics as well. I look at the pics here and just hang my head.. frown

Do you turn on 360 Navigation so you can see your waypoints on the 360 view?
