Anyone interested in a bit of a get together in Either OK or Arkansas. Guided or not. Take wives/gf's. Maybe they can be the yak pickup crew lol. Selfish request cause I have never been those areas on river trip fishing, and would not want to go alone, not safe! lol. tent camp/lodge/whatnot Mid May to June

Sounds to me like you should go do either the Mountain Fork or the Illinois River.

My dad and I take a lot of trips to the lower mountain fork all the time for trout fishing. He goes more than I do because he became one of those "fly fisherman" and doesn't fish for bass anymore lol. I know there are a lot of people that do little kayak runs on certain parts of the river but I'm really not sure how long they are.

Both the Mtn. Fork and the Illinois are good for fishing. You just have to be aware that both will have tourons, party rafters on the Illinois and party kayakers on the Lower Mtn. Fork, when the weather gets warm enough. The lower Mtn. Fork is about 3 miles from the Rereg dam to the highway. If you want longer you can always go from the highway to one of the outfitters takeouts. Lots of outfitters there. The Illinois is probably the best Smallmouth river in Oklahoma. It has lots of launches and take-outs. So many it is often confusing. It also has some campsites at the launches. I don't know much about any outfitters there but there is almost always someone up there that can help if you set it up ahead of time. Join the group North East Oklahoma Kayak Anglers on Facebook and ask them some questions. The Illinois is worth the extra driving time. Differences in the rivers...the Mtn Fork is a rock bottom river. Usually these rock are very uneven(think ankle breakers)and slick. There are some minor rapids because of these rocks. The water is cold because it comes out of the bottom of Broken Bow Lake. It has year round trout in it. The Illinois is a gravel/sand bottom lake...for the most part and usually has a nice steady flow with little rapids. The water is warm above Tenkiller lake and cold below. The upper part is great smallie fishing. Never fished the lower but I know it has trout. More info Illinois info If the Illinois was within 3 hours I would be on the upper every weekend. JB

thank you that is a great post ! Agreed! I've never fished the upper fork but if there are smallies in there I bet it would be really fun, and where kayaker's would want to go. I have caught a few large mouths from the lower mountain fork before, can't remember where. I know after it flooded, however long ago that was, it changed up the fishing quite a bit for a while; and I think that's why I was able to catch those bass there, because that never happened before the river flooded. If anybody ever wants to see the before and after pics, if you aren't familiar with how the lower mountain fork is/was, or are just interested, over in the Fly Fishing part of the TFF I know there are pictures of it. I know there is a bunch of guys that frequent the lower mountain fork and would be glad to share their knowledge about the river.

The Upper Mountain fork is really difficult to hit at the right flow. Since there are no lakes to keep the water flow even it is hit or miss. The Glover and Little rivers are the same way. They all also have the same problem...rock bottom. I don't mean nice flat even rock bottom. The bottoms are more like earthquake fracture, ankle breaking bottoms. If you hit them at the perfect flow then you do not have to worry about it but get just a little too low and you are dragging, trying not to break a leg. Also, last I heard the drought a few years ago really hurt the smallies on the upper Mtn Fork. Lat time I went all I caught were Spots. Also, I do not know of a shuttle service that will do the upper Mtn Fork.

Well, any kind of fish, LMB, Crappie,Sandies its all good. Would be nice to get a few of us together. actual dates not that important, just good floating and fishing. I'll be sure to bring beer There is a good thread in Kayak forum people talking about various river runs in Ark, etc. Mid June might be better for me time and money wise. Just got a lot of kayak fishing dreams to catch up on!!!

anyone decided on the river they want to go fishing on yet? I do know that the last week of May I won't be able to go, but anytime after that will be good to go.
