I've never been redfish fishing but I'm going in a couple months and I have no idea on what type of rod to get. I mainly stick to bass. I'm thinking something around 7 ft with a fast action. Any input would be great

Pro Angler medium heavy works well for me and has for the past dozen years.

Berkley inshore rod, medium or medium heavy. Penn Spinfisher V 3500. 30lbs braid power pro. That's my favorite set up for inshore. It will handle red\specks and wading

My favorite: rod Fenwick HMX 9' MH; reel Quantum Cabo 40 PTs.
Feel happy every time I have a chance to use it! Magnetic bail lock of Cabo reel is something different smile

Falcon Coastal 7"6' MH is a great all around saltwater rod. From throwing a 1/16th oz jig head to a popping cork. Trout or reds. $89 at Academy.

What type of fishing do you have in mind?....are you referring to surf fishing, jetty fishing, bay or back water flats,?... The rod and reel set up will differ greatly depending on application, or presentation...I am still in this learning curve as well.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

If you are using cut bait or crabs as bait I'll second the Pro Angler. If you are using corks or lures, I would just use a good medium heavy bass rod. I would bring a couple extra though. Those reds will test your equipment. I would absolutely not use Dobyn's rods for redfish. First time to the coast we broke 4 Dobyn's fishing for bull reds. Didn't break any other rods though.........
