I don't know whether to get rid of the guy that made these welds, or move him up the ladder for bluffing our welding technician. He has BSing skills, not sure of any others.

Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

you have mistaken a grinder for a welder.

Would you reveal what that thing is? I mean if its going on the front of a mad max vehicle its fine Lol, it's just a rolled piece of plate,,,,, a cylinder about 8' OD. If you look closely you can see the seam tacked together. The tacks are the semi horrible welds. The really bad weld is just a piece of flat plate I think he threw in there and made an attempt to weld up to keep the other tacks from breaking. It's not working. The seam has to pass 100% X-ray.

Submerged arc when we can, flux core or stick rod the rest of the time. The "T" seam welds on the right are sub-arc, the two welds on the left are flux core.

This is the end product, before blast and paint and refrac. It's the bottom piece of a 200' smoke stack going to a refinery.

Submerged arc when we can, flux core or stick rod the rest of the time. The "T" seam welds on the right are sub-arc, the two welds on the left are flux core. Looks like some marked LOF on the SAW and stitch welding is not allowed in ASME section IX FCAW or GMAW, however stitch welding is allowed in Farm Code 2002 or those that have an aversion to following AWS D1.1 or other consensus codes. As far as the original post, I would recommend 911 on speed dial training for all associated employees.

You almost got it right (it's WPQ/WOPQ instead of WQR but I understand because I was an old welder) - ASME Sec. IX QW-350. Do you need an Inspection job? CWI(?) or we could train you to our SNT-TC-1A VT Qualifications. Check out Orbital/Auto-genus Welding for process piping systems. I used to do that (besides being a code certified welder) and then got into the Inspection and Analytical Testing on these systems.

I'd love to be that good with TIG....I had a nice Miller syncrowave at one time and wasted a lot of steel trying to get it down...:) Now I get to look at welding procedures for energy companies and see if they have their "recipe" right for pipe...:) I'd like to get another TIG machine to play with when I finally retire....

$25 an hour welds That looks like a $8.50 an hour welder. That Jet Rod 7014 or 7024 on the left is ugly! Heck lay it down and it will weld itself.
