Just curious. I like to pitch and flip (the motion), but I don't get good results.

75% of the time, a baby brush hog in a watermelon or green pumpkin will catch you a fish pitching to logs and laydowns. It's probably the #1 confidence bait in anglers all over the country. Jigs can be difficult, but I would play around with trailers more than actual jigs.

Not a lot of jig flippin here either. Usually always some form of creature bait first and then I will experiment some with other plastics if it's not working.

Pegged Missile D-Bomb for me, but i'll have to admit, lately I've been doing pretty well with Swindle's 3/8 Ball Head Jig.

Rage Craw or Speed Craw mostly. If I'm on a lake that is predominantly dock pitching, I'm pitching a jig. Love a 3/8 or 1/2 Hack Attack jig in some sort of Green Pumkin

Speed craw
Nothing like a jig bite but I just don't get bit on them as much so I stick with the craw 95% of the time.
If you can't find em wind em.

I flip MAYBE 3%-5% of my fishing but when I do its 50/50 between a jig and a beaver type bait.

Just curious. I like to pitch and flip (the motion), but I don't get good results. Don't think so much about the bait as much as the weight and shape of the bait. Flipping/pitching= heavy cover=reaction bites. Color and actual bait should be more what your confident in. Sometimes the fish hit a fast fall, sometimes slower fall. A lot of hits you get with this technique the fish don't even really know what their inhaling....so there goes the color/bait theory! But then there are times......

When pitching, Im usually using a beaver style bait. When I actually flip, its with a punch rig and a creature bait.

I am not convinced of that bigger baits equals bigger fish either. At least that has not been my experience. I have caught little fish off of big swimbaits. My biggest fish came off a C-Rig with a bubble fry.

Agreed that small baits will work but there are statistically more big fish caught on jigs. I am going to play the odds and start fishing them regularly. Whenever I want to teach myself a new technique I use it pretty much exclusively until I feel like I am proficient at it.
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Jig right now, and a plastic with a little less action. As we get warmer, I still will use the jig but my trailer will have a lot more action, or my plastic by itself will have a lot more action. I will say this though, because I have heard it in person and online from pro's. That old school ribbon tail will work wonders. No one fishes them as much because we have so many options, like a kid in a candy store. But because we have so many options, that worm works because it is considerably less seen so compared to the beaver styles. Kind of the it has come full circle now.

If the fish will bite a jig that is my first choice over any soft plastic but sometimes they just do not want a jig and that is when I go to the plastics.
I only pitch baits, I never flip, because I just like pitching better.
I always have a Tx. rigged baby brush hog on deck because it just plain catches fish. I also pitch larger creature baits, craws and craw tubes when the fish don't want a jig.

Before we had some many choices of creature style baits & jigs, I introduced myself to the skirted bullet weight. I didn't have any confidence in a jig at all in my early days as an angler. Donnie Morris mad some great looking painted bullet weights that he sold around Lake Fork. He started putting skirts on them and they looked great. I would put a 3/8 oz skirted weight and tie on my fave worm hook. Then I would rig a lizard or worm on the hook. Now everybody makes punch skirts. This is a great alternative to those of you that want to gain more confidence in a jig but don't like the fact they tend to hang up in heavy cover more than a T-rig. Note: a 1/2 oz skirted weight fishes more like a 3/8 oz jig. A 3/8 skirted rig fishes like a 1/4 oz jig and so on. http://dirtyjigstackle.com/products.php?cat=51 Buy a couple punch skirts of your color choice. Rig a 3/8 or 1/2 oz tungsten bullet weight on it then tie on a good stout hook. Now rig your Baby Brush Hog on the hook. You can buy these too but the colors & sizes are limited. Plus it is much cheaper to do it with separate components. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/strike-k...oductextensions Now just add water. Use good heavy line of your choice and throw this into the middle of the thickest brush you can find. Don't worry too much about how pretty your flip or pitching technique is at first. Just get it into the thickest cover you can. Now get off the interweb thingy and go fishing!!
