Its windy out there. Keep your paddle in your lap and ready to use at all times. Make a habit of it. It will stay in your lap better if you don't have it feathered.

Ha! Great tip!

And, it is also a danged accurate way to determine the quality of a paddle. The really great ones are so light, they'll blow right off your lap. You have to almost be careful.

Iconn4, we had those conditions Saturday on Naconiche. Whew! Windy AND cold.

Good thing is if the paddle gets blown into the water the wind will push you into it.

I've got a 21 oz ONNO special light build that is worthless to me in these winds. The only way to keep it in kayak is to take it apart and stow below. roflmao

Great tip! I learned that very thing today on Belton. It was much quicker of a grab when I was drifting close to rocks or brush. Im curious if yall use a paddle clip on calm days, then which one? I have a taco clip and sometimes I wonder if the noise it makes clipping the paddle in startles the fish. Thoughts?

Honestly Im trying to find any reason I havent caught a single keeper since spring break!

I never liked not having my paddle in my lap, ready to use. I see folks anchored out with their paddles clipped up and I'm thinking the worst. Boat coming at you and paddle not ready to move you, or wake coming at you broadside and scrambling to get bow turned into it. I guess its a personal choice but I'm most comfortable with my paddle always ready. Often times just being able to use paddle to quickly push off of something one handed while fighting a fish that's pulling you somewhere that you would rather not be.
