Does anyone have a recent report from Fayette County they are willing to share? Headed up there for 3-4 days next week. I d appreciate any advance scouting that you might share. Ive fished there many times but havent been on that lake in about 12 months. Thanks.

I went yesterday, but not sure if that counts since it was pure survival fishing. Lol. Wow it looked like the Gulf of Mexico. Wind blew so hard, it somehow curved around points. Ive caught some recently flipping reeds. Not everyone enjoys that and you wont catch 100 but they do have fish in them. Yesterday I caught a few fish in 2-5 of water in or around timber. I saw a boat catch a few near the edge of reeds. We were both using plastics. Like I said, not a lot to say but it was a kind of day you pick a spot and make the most of it.
If you havent been there in a while and if you arent a deep water depth finder reading guy, Id find a creek and follow it back and fish plastics in whatever way you like just outside the creek until you start to put together a plan.

Thanks for the report. That little lake can get pretty mean when the wind blows hard. I do like to fish offshore. I was curious if they were schooled up in the usual spots yet?

Last few times for me the fish have been scattered and had to resort to fishing the shoreline due to wind. I hope the wind cooperates for you as I like to fish offshore as well. My best fish came off the dam on livingston cranks in 10-15 fow. Shad were spawning end of March but haven't been since then.

Shad spawn should be happening in the morning, fish shallow near reeds, traps, small swim baits spinners chatter baits in white. Crank and Flip the timber for bites, usually 5 - 8 ft depths. The rock bite should be turning back on 10-15 ft. Top water works early too, bone colored walking baits, and pop r style baits.
25 fish a day should be an average day on the lake.

25 fish a day should be an average day on the lake. Thanks Bryan. That is the pattern I typically follow this time of year. When you say "rock bite" do you mean the dam or the not so secret rock piles? What color cranks are producing - or does color really matter? I usually throw shad patterns on that lake but I've seen others catch fish with various bright colors. Also - typical clarity with that stained green water?

All rock, there are no secrets on Fayette. I'm not sure color matters, but yes water color determines that. I would have a shad pattern and a chartreuse type color with an orange belly. All colors work on this lake, but finding the color that produces more bites. U'll catch fish on solid black, but will u catch at least 25 fish a day? Who knows.

I have several spots I like to fish and I keep running till I find some fish feeding. Like BMCD said, no secrets other than searching this small lake till you find something feeding. After fishing the lake for so many years, you just kind a know where to fish during different times of the day or in different weather conditions.

There is a rock pile out in front of the discharge. And there is small pile on the right hand side going into the intake that is way before the mouth of the intake. It's not very big pile either. Almost where the dike first starts off the shore line. Kind of a small rock pile but it sure does hold some fish. It's in about twelve feet of water and it might be three feet high. I do not fish it much, it's like everything else out there, it's a hit or miss thing. And I normally catch smaller fish off of it. How ever the discharge rock pile seems to hold good quality fish when they are on it. And I don't fish it much either. I'm more into the number game myself. Two to four pound bass in the thirty to sixty count is amazing trip to me and I would rather be fighting a bass than fishing for one. I use to be able to get a five or six pound bass as a kicker fish on just about every trip, but now I'm doing good to catch a heavy four as a kicker fish. But I no longer fish once or twice a week either so, I have no idea on where the bigger guys are feeding today. Heck I'm happy with a twenty fish day because I only fish for about four hours, maybe six hours on a good day before my lower back starts giving me issues.

We went friday as well. Boated 40 fish between the two of us. Best baits were a jerkbait and a swimbait on an under spin. All fish were caught shallow but i am thinking the fish are on their way out soon. Johnny's cove has some grass around it but most of our fish came from the Niad(sp?) that we found out in about 5ft.

Four days on the lake - four boats. Early bite on the reeds turned off when the sun got over the horizon but good numbers early on traps, under spins and square bills. Good fish in the trees during midday - cranks, Texas rig plastics, wacky rigs. Best bite probably came on Sweet Beaver and Baby Brush Hog. Found big schools offshore but had difficulty firing them up with deep cranks. Good numbers (and some good size) on C-Rig lizards (tilapia color) and Baby Brush Hogs (green pumpkin with green and purple flake). Scouting for offshore fish kept numbers down but we still had good numbers. Good lake to try out new techniques.

I went to Fayette the other day and there is no grass to be found, sorry for my false reply. There was some a few months a go, but not now...

I did find a little grass yesterday. The wind was howling so I didn't look much. Most of it seemed to be emergent growth and short and scattered, but it looked very healthy from what I was pulling up on my baits. Hopefully it will start spreading and growing the next few weeks. I boated 8 in about 3 hours yesterday afternoon and missed probably another 8. The bite was very weird - lots of short strikes too. Tried a couple of new spots and stayed out of the white caps. Caught all on swim bait on an under-spin. First time to throw that bait on Fayette

I ended up with five and missed more or they came unbutton real fast like. A good rod bend and then gone, zero. They were short striking the baits for sure. The only thing my shallow under water baits would bring back was that nasty black slime, so tried to avoid those baits. Next time I go I am going to really change my baits up, I got a find something that will work better than I am custom to using. I think my choices will work so we will see. I might get back out there on Sunday, a buddy of mine wants to go fishing and he said he thought he might be have that day off.
