I've never put out at the Caney Creek ramp during the McDonalds tournament. Will somebody give me some idea about how crazy it's going to be? Will getting there an hour early work? Or do I need to make it an hour and a half early or maybe two hours early?

There will be people already on their starting spots 2 hours early. Ramp will probably be a madhouse. If I had to guess.
I can backlash toilet paper.

I would think an hour early will be alraight. There will be a few boats already shpwing up but feom my expwrience the big crowd gets there just in time to launch. That's based on another ramp though. Probably not the one I will be using

It has been a few years since the last time i was there but I have gotten there about 3 hours before daylight before and it was already crazy but there were police officers directing traffic and keeping the chaos down as much as possible

An hour early is about when it starts to get hectic. To be safe, I would be there at least by 4:30 to launch. This not only beats a lot of the launching traffic, but it also gets you on the water before a lot of other boats are out there (safer running to your first spot).
I've never seen or heard of police officers being at the Caney ramp directing traffic. Being it's private property (Corp property operated by the Texas Forest Service) the police officers would have to be paid by them. I seriously doubt that is going to happen. On the south end at Umphreys, where the tournament is actually hosted out of, there will be police helping with traffic towards the end of the final day.

As stated earlier, if you arrive at 4:30-4:45, you are pretty much golden as far as getting launched and on the water rather quickly.
*Grab a few launch passes on Wed or Thursday if you know you will be using the same ramp everyday. Have them filled out and money in them before you get there and you can thank me later!! Parks will RUN OUT of these quickly so dont grab more than you need.
*I think the majority of folk set their alarms for 5 am and go from there. If you are one of those, good luck and be prepared to wait.
*Other than tie downs, straps, transom savers, have EVERYTHING ready for the water (lights, jackets, pfd's, kill switch, coolers, etc) when you leave your camps. If you have to do anything to prep your boat taking more than 30-45 seconds, you are probably gonna get some STARES or even a honk or two!! If you do wait to prep your boat, don't do it near the ramp! Pull over and prep it well out of the way of the ramp or the line that has formed.
*Bump your big motor over to make sure the battery is good and ready to crank.
*Turn off your headlights at the ramp!!
And last, don't forget to put the plug in!!
Good Luck to all and please be safe!!
Everything on your bass boat is broken......You just don't know it yet.

Don't skip out on the parking pass. In fact I'd grab a few if you are there practicing. Last time I fished McDonald's at caney the park police was stopping everyone as they loaded their boat to check for passes. Ticketed everyone that didn't have a pass

Friday Caney will probably be about as crowded as all the rest, but if the weather does like they are predicting Friday night and Saturday Morning, (similar to last weekend) there will be a big crowd there Saturday morning. The wind will be out of the north, it's protected and everyone will know it. Problem is that the wind will pin a bunch of folks in Caney and Little Caney. If you decide to run out of there, be careful.

Oops, just realized it's not this weekend but next. Good, maybe the weather will be better for y'all. I don't fish those events, but may be there for the BFL on T-Bend.

I agree 4:30-ish would be a great time to launch. It may sound like overkill to some, but no stress.
