I boat captain for a kid that is not mine and his family pays for fuel, lodging, ect. They understand that it is a lot cheaper to pay for those expenses over purchasing a boat, equipment ect.

I'm very lucky that my son has a partner who's parents are very generous. They supply all snacks and drinks and $200 for expenses for each tourney. They understand the costs involved dragging a boat for practice and tourney and fuel costs for the boat. It's not cheap for sure. I'm very thankful and have told them it's not expected as I was doing it anyway, but they refuse to not chip in. I've heard of several guys with less generous parents.
