I was wondering if this is a giant sandbass my step dad caught and if so could it be a record for lake tawakoni ?they said it measures at 18.5 inches but I don't have a weight yet it was caught on chicken heart with garlic while catfish ing

When in doubt, check the tooth patch. Either way, if it truly is 18.5”, you have no worries. The record is like 23” long I think on Twok.

A 23" sand bass would be a world record. That fish looks like a sandbass but it is hard to tell from the pic. Checking the tooth patch would be the only way to be certain.

Any other photos? My gut reaction when I looked at the pic was hybrid. But now I'm uncertain.

After much consideration, I would say a sandbass since its in an Ozark Trail cooler. Had it been in a Yeti, it would definitely be a Hybrid and a record! bolt

There are yellow bass hybrids in tawakoni i caught one last year that I thought was a lake record yellow. They are hard to differ and i had to send pictures in to the state fisheries to figure it out. That is what it looks like based on the last picture.
