Just wondering if anyone has been out that way lately. I got a couple of buddies want to try and canoe from the bridge down to Rochelles. I haven't floated that particular stretch before. I mostly wade a little upstream and downstream of the bridge, but I haven't been out since last year. Just wondering if anyone knew how the flows were going, and how long that stretch might take? They want to target smallies. Any info I could pass on would be appreciated. Talking to them makes me realize I need to get out and wet a line myself. Thanks in advance!

4years, 8months, 29days to make your first post! Welcome.

I'm curious as well. Been thinking about making the drive out for a day trip.

Haha. Yeah, what can I say? I do love this forum. Some great guys and great info on here. I'll try to be more of a contributer and less of a stalker from now on.

Yes that is a real lurker there! Take three days if you can to maximize fishing time. Get a good map of the river so you can know where youre at. They have been trying to get them going again after the golden alge. If catching a few smallmouth is a goal look for rock and running water with eddies. Clouser, craw patterns, and helgramite patterns would be a good start as well as mylar poppers. Flow normally low but always prepare for a rise. Should be a really good mix bag all the way down! Hope to see a report good luck!

Welcome to the forum! Lol

Make it at least a two day trip, three would be better, as Robert says...do a search on this forum for Brazos float trips or some such...I detailed the trip fairly well, including camping spots, for any that want to make...good trip, but I was telling about trout, striper and catfish...dont fish for smallies, so dont know much about them...we always did the trip in canoe, with some dragging involved, unless you wait for the daily flows, which I rarely ever bothered with...fun trip, good luck.
