Caveat Emptor

don't rush into anything
most hail does not cause roof leaks
you have time to make a good decision
your roofer does not need to be on the roof with an insurance adjuster
i wouldn't do anything for 6 months

It's the beginning of Hail season. I second the wait 6 months before replacing.

No sense in paying a deductible twice with additional Hail damage later on.

Mark Fine on THF (droptine) is the only guy that gets on my roofs. Use him for good work at a discount.

I use Jet Fine. Paid no deductible, got a free grill, TFF sticker, no poop in my yard, 80 year shingles, a free guide trip on fork, and best of all, Jet doesn’t talk in haiku like some roofers do

Is there a time limit for filing a claim? We didn’t file a claim last year because it wasn’t terrible (even though all our neighbors did). We will probably file one this year if we get more hail—got about 15 min yesterday

If there is no time limit, I’d wait until September/October (hate to see roofers suffering up there July/August)

what if you were deployed in Afghanistan & hadn't been home in 2 years to file a claim?

Getting around any rules that are in place is just as bad as someone who has their deductible covered.

I have some old damage on my roof from hail. Mostly though its an old roof. When I bought the house a claim was brought up during the title search and the seller lowered the price of the house to sell it to me. I did it myself but that was 20 plus years ago and I am now an old. It was a pain then because of the pitch.

Am I going to have to pay to have my roof replaced? Such an old roof probably won't get insurance to cover it suspect.

Age doesn’t matter. If you have storm related damages and coverage insurance will repair/replace.
They will hold back more depreciation due to age but it’s recoverable upon completion of the new roof.

Allstate seems to be horrible home owners insurance

Seems to have replaced Farmers

I wouldn't have either of them as homeowners, horrible companies.

Go though the process and file a claim. It should work out for you.

Broken Pipes on water lines usually in or below slab.

Claims can easily go into the 15K range if it ruins wood floors

I have been dealing with HomeOwners Insurance for 20 plus years

Correct, and also

Mow my yard, plant some bushes, detail my car, bring me tamales at Christmas time, and do some concrete work

Broken Pipes on water lines usually in or below slab.

Claims can easily go into the 15K range if it ruins wood floors

I have been dealing with HomeOwners Insurance for 20 plus years

Even more if there is kitchen cabinets sitting on those wood floors.

Lets see.

Average home in Frisco probably gets around $25K for roof and to stain fence. Shingles appear to be very cheap, and labor is cheap. I would venture to say they have less than 8K in material and Labor.

Seems like a lot of room for profit to me.

Yes, then it's basically the homeowner is getting a new kitchen

It seems to me the real reason roofing companies don’t like Allstate is because they don’t pay them direct. Just my humble observation

Why would they pay them direct? Did they hire them to do the work?

In my experience for roofing, the insurance cut a check directly to homeowner and lets them decide if he wants to make repairs.

If they have a mortgage then the mortgage company may require to see something that says the repair was done.

This exactly. Some companies will cut check to customer and roofer if there is a signed contract. The main reason roofers don’t like Allstate is Allstate requires almost twice as many hits in a test square to total a roof than pretty much every other company. Last I heard Allstate needed 12 or 16 and most carriers need 8.

Know what insurance provider the customer has and what they require before you tell the homeowner to file a claim. Boils down to experience and knowledge in your trade.

Well my phone has been ringing off the hook this week if from roofing companies and even one walking the neighborhood. They will not take no for an answer, place me on their do not call list, and when you call the number that they called for it says it's not a working number. So now I'm making a appointments with these companies to come out first thing in the morning, I'll then tell them to get lost. If you are going to waste my time I'm going to waste their's!

How did they get your phone number?

Can't you place a "No Soliciting" sign on your yard, Call police and let them deal with them.

While you’re at it, make your yard a gun free zone so you can prevent any shootings.

Allstate seems to be horrible home owners insurance

Seems to have replaced Farmers

I wouldn't have either of them as homeowners, horrible companies.

Never had a single issue with Allstate. Had them for 25 years.

cheers

City of Frisco you can get a "No Soliciting Sign" from the police department for $10. No one is allowed to knock your door.

Any one else handing out flyer each person must have a permit to solicit, or they get another ticket.

They knock your door with a No Soliciting Sign and you call the police, they will be out in about 3 minutes and have them taken care of.

Excellent Customer Service for the Frisco Police Department, they really take care of the citizens of Frisco.

Another vote for Mark. He made the process as painless as possible.
