I just bought a 2017 Phoenix 920 proxp. It has a Lowrance 12 gen3 set in the dash. I've always run Birds and I want another graph on the dash just to run gps. What's the best 12 in with the best gps only? Thanks in advance...

HB HELIX12 Sonar GPS. You wouldnt need a G2N since you wont be networking it to another unit , so a Gen1 would save you quite a bit of money. I believe (not sure on Gen1 units) they have 2 map card slots. 1 LakeMaster card & 1 Navionics card would do the job.

I agree with going with the Helix 12, unless you just want touch screen, but for just mapping I am not sure that the cost difference between the Solix and the Helix would be worth it.

Personally, I would go with the same brand if you really want them side by side. You could always sell what you have and go birds or get another HDS. You will want to share waypoints that you find while scanning the bottom over to the map unit and that's not possible between brands.
GPS is pretty much the same between the brands. Bow to console brands is another story.
