Has anyone tried getting up Caney creek and going to the spillway off of Ceder Creek lake? My wife’s cousin made it to the spillway sometime last week and came out with 60+ Crappie. Was wonder how the journey would be and any tips on getting there by boat. They were letting water out of Caney Lake at the time.

I cant find any info on the creek or spillway you mentioned but I can see a spillway at the end of that creek coming from caney lake. Is that lake private? Im wondering how your in-law got there id like to try it out.

The guides here tell me don't chance it; too many boats get torn up, and every few years, someone gets killed. Apparently there's a really difficult spot you have to get through. Did your cousin take a boat?

I know he went in by boat, but I didn’t get any other info from him besides that.
Just by looking at the map it doesn’t seem like it would be hard to get there unless the creek is shallow.

Been there many times. It's a bit tricky getting into the creek but it's doable if your careful. The lake above the dam belongs to a Power Company and no access is possible.

Be careful there's lots of big fish in there that will hit a jig.

I grew up on Cedar Creek. I did not know you could get to the back side of that spillway. I looked it up on google earth and still didnt see any way up there except via the trinity river.

I have seen people in there with 17 lunds. You need to know the NARROW 2-3 ft depth inlet if the lake is at full pool. Location of a limb and a stump that will damge prop and hank up boat if hit, and underwater rock outcroppings at spillway entrance.

enter creek and follow it all the way to the hole behind the dam. Carefully,
idle speed.

My pontoon might have a problem navigating that little creek. I'm pretty well stuck on Lewisville these days.
