Fished it once nearly 20 years ago from a tiny jonboat. With my largeness and a not so tiny buddy the boat sat so low in the water we almost saw eye to eye with one of those dragons! It was crowded with boats and gators even back then We caught only smaller fish on traps over the grass. I had more fun at lake Nacogdoches.

Back when Abitibi owned it, the paper mill, we were also members of the deer lease surrounding it. Gate was rarely closed and it was like $2 a day honor system. In college I'd see maybe a couple boats a week and those guys were usually crappie fishing. There was a stretch in there about 7-8 years after tpw stocked it that it was simply amazing what you would see in the spring cruising. The number of 5-8lbers was silly. Many days we wouldn't stop unless it actually looked like a 10+

yall act like Kurth or any other public water in East Texas is a secret. there are big fish in nearly every lake in tx. just go find a lake, and go at a time where it fishes to your strength and you'll likely pin a monster. All of yall are excited about bed fishing, and i'm sitting over here lost and confused, waiting for next January.

I remember when I was young a guy letting me fish a small lake one time out of his jon boat and I caught a bunch of fish. Afterward I stopped by to thank him and tell him what a good day I had. He said, "Any time, just don't tell anyone about our great little fishing hole. If you do, they will want to come here and before long it won't be our great little fishing hole."

I don't tell anyone else what to do, but I don't feel the need to tell everyone about 500 acre lakes. They aren't secret, but they also aren't known by everyone in a 500 mile radius.

AGREE.

It's over for this lake and has been. Word got out and then it everyone was fishing it and then MLF does the championship out there. roflmao

Just glad there are other lakes that can be kept a secret.

Everyone lets take a moment of silence for a fallen one.

I remember the same type of thing happening back when I was in college to Lake Dunlap. Me and my buddies caught some giants out of there for a few years. We did our part to keep it hush hush for as long as we could. It started to gain popularity after several people started getting on various forums posting up pics and storys of the big fish they caught. I guess some people crave the recognition. Before long it had tournamnets out there every weekend and you couldn't even find a parking space at the ramp during the week. It was hard enough to fish due to wake board boats and the fact that it's a tiny lake that's pretty narrow. It was death by internet for sure. I am not sure how it fishes now, but I know I will never forget the big bags we used to pull out of there.

From my experience in 55 years of fishing, the only ones that hate on folks that post pics and what lake they caught them on, are the ones that (1) still fish there regularly, (2) do the exact same thing when fishing someone else's "secret" lake, (3) are struggling to catch fish themselves, and (4) are the most greedy %*&^&s in fishing when it comes to sharing information. roflmao

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

My reasoning for not mentioning back then was the simple fact I know what pressure does to a lake, especially 600 acres. Looking back I'm sure glad we got to experience something very few have. Comparing it now to then is like Falcon in 2010 versus Falcon now

Lol, Dunlap was "death by internet" and "death by Thursday Nighter's". But what do you expect when you put 50-60 boats a week on a 400 acre lake... do the math. Either way that lake is a shell of it's former self. I've been fortunate enough to have awesome days out of there, but many, many people struggle on that lake, even myself. I haven't had an awesome day there in several years. I don't know how long ago you fished there but it ain't fishing good now.

Mark Zona and one of his buddies did a show from there recently, too. They never mentioned the name of the lake but I recognized the launch area with the new ramp and courtesy dock. I am going for a weekend at the end of April, come H**l or high water.

What you need to know about Kurth is this: LOTS of vegetation in the warm/hot months. The vegetation is still there in the Fall/Winter, it has just fallen back. Plenty of stumps with no rhyme or reason as to their location. Be careful! Beautiful water. I have never seen more than 5 "dragons" on this lake. This lake has brought numbers and size to me.

I don't know if they ever built that bathroom they were talking about along with the new ramp and courtesy dock. If this is important to you, maybe someone will chime in.
