I just wanted to hear what you think about jig heads with a weed guard in heavy cover? They will be used with plastics.
Thanks in advance.

Get you some lite wire jig heads and fish with 15/4 braid. When you get hung simply pull the hook loose (use a wooden dowel) and re-adjust hook with some pliers. It works like a charm every time. You will not spend half your time retying.

I've used weedless jigheads so long, I wouldn't know how to fish any other way.

I'm using hi-vis mono right now, because I can see it. Are you able to see the braid as well? Deffenantly sounds like good advise.

So in you're opinion, they don't limit your your ability to set the hook compared to non guarded hooks?

You can then attach 40-50 yards of braid to it and spool two or three reels off of one spool of braid. This makes braid cost effective.

Southern Pro Weed Guards are soft plastic guards that allow anglers to fish in the weeds and brush right where the crappie are. Simply lay one end of the weed guard over the eye of the hook or jighead and then stick the other end on the point of the hook (sold separately). The end of the Southern Pro Weed Guard can be pinched off to fit smaller hooks. https://www.fishusa.com/product/Southern...BSABEgKdvvD_BwE

I like it! Thank you for the reminder, and for your service to our country!

No, weedless jigheads make little, if any difference in hook-up ratio. Maybe the tater chips it might affect, and I'd as soon miss them, let my jig fall back down and be ready for the next fish rather than dragging it up and having to unhook it. I use Timmy Tom's weedless jigheads. Excellent quality, and equipped with needle sharp Matsuo sickle hooks I trim the fiber weedguard just a hair above the hook. http://timmytoms.com/shop/lead-weedless-jigs/

I use the same type as Gamblinman.
mine are poured by Paul Mullins from Vicco Kentucky, unpainted.
I don't trim them just split the fibers 1/2 on one side of the hook, 1/2 on the other side. I don't even remember the last time I was hung & broke off. I make my own bamboo tops & pretty much fish them 90% of the time. Bamboo is sticky to jig fish.

Southern Pro has some that rig snagless like a tx rig worm!!!! Caught plenty on them had no issue on hookups. Can drag it straight through mossy tree piles and it'll breeze right through!!!
